As this season of Tyler Perry’s popular TBS sitcoms “Meet the Browns” and “House of Payne” near wrap, both programs are pulling very strong numbers in the Nielsen ratings, bested only by Monday Night Football on ESPN. Target Market News reports that for the week of November 2 – 8:

“TBS resumed its reign over the cable viewing habits of black households after falling to BET rise on the programming charts. Without BET’s airing of The Game or awards show, Tyler Perry’s comedies prevailed right behind perennial favorite, ESPN’s Monday Night Football.”

In order, the top five programs for the week were:

  1. Monday Night Football – ESPN
  2. Meet the Browns – TBS
  3. Meet the Browns – TBS
  4. House of Payne – TBS
  5. House of Payne – TBS

Such a strong showing should give fans of the shows assurance that Curtis Payne and Leroy Brown will be back for yet another season of comedy and heart. For now, we understand that Mr. Perry’s studio will be gearing up to turn Ntozake Shange’s play “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf” into a feature film, as announced on September 3, 2009.
